      The regular season has ended for KHSAA high school boys and girls basketball in the Bluegrass. The most anticipated part of the season play begins Monday, February 26th, as every district (64) total in the state.

      March Madness is not here yet, but it's just a week away. Every coaching staff and player's goal is to advance as far as possible in the district and region and play for a chance to win a Regional title and play in the Boys Sweet 16 State tournament and the Girls Sweet 16 State tournament @ Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. 

        Kentucky High School Athletics is one of the dinosaurs in the nation, and it only crowns one state champion in boys' basketball and one in girls' basketball. For decades, the entire country has been classified in the sport of high school basketball and has been crowned state champion in every class. Kentucky still holds to the concept that big or small, public or private, only (1) school will be the overall State Champion in basketball in the Bluegrass. The KHSAA proudly and annually calls the events the "Greatest Show in Hoops," played in Rupp Arena every March. 

          However, the postseason begins with district tournament play, and here is a look locally at the history of the 12th District Boys/Girls Basketball tournament from 2006 to the present. The 12th district comprises Butler Co. HS, Edmonson Co. HS, Grayson Co. HS, and Whitesville Trinity HS. NOTE* 2006 is when this basketball district began, with realignment by the KHSAA; this is why the article only covers this time period to date. 

          The District Champions by years are as follows: The Girls Champion Grayson Co. HS Girls, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021…… (13) District Championships*

 Edmonson Co. HS Girls, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023 …… (4) District Championships* 

Butler Co. HS Girls, 2022…. (1) District Championship* 

Whitesville Trinity HS Girls… No district titles.
