“Quiver Shiver” to features 800 archers in Morgantown

Butler County High School’s Archery team is hosting a tournament, the Quiver Shiver, at the Butler County Extension Office next to the high school. The event will kick off on Friday, January 17 at 7 p.m. and will continue on Saturday, January 18, at 7 p.m. Admission is $5.

BCHS will shoot on Saturday at 6 and 7 p.m. BCMS shoots on Saturday sometime between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Morgantown Elementary will shoot on Friday at 8 p.m. and North Butler Elementary at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The awards ceremony will be on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. Concessions will also be sold.

There will be over 800 shooters attending this tournament from across the region as far as Glasgow. Grayson County Middle School, Edmonson County High School and Foundation Christian Academy are just a small portion of the schools coming.

According to some observers, coming to watch the archers shoot is a very unique experience as those in attendance get to see a sport that doesn't use a ball.  Archery is something that anyone can do. It is one of the only sports where mental or physical disabilities can't stop you from doing what you love. There are shooters who are blind, and others are amputees.

Bobby McKee, head coach of the BCHS Archery Team said, “You don't have to be athletic; anyone can shoot even if you have disabilities. The majority of archers don't fit the mold of athletes.”

Jesse Hudson, a parent volunteer, said, “The best thing about archery is watching the kids come off the line, smiling because of how well they shot.”

The team’s highest achievement is KHSAA Regional Girls” Championship and this year the program wants to keep growing by being 10th in the state.
