Braves thump Bears 49-16
It was a tough outing for the Butler County High School football team on Friday night as the Bears fell hard to district foe Union County in Morganfield. Plagued by injuries early in the game, the Bears got behind early and dropped a 49-16 decision.
Butler County (3-3, 0-2) is facing an uphill battle in district play and are hoping to "win out" the rest of the way with district games remaining against Todd County Central (10/11 at home), McLean County (10/18, H), Hancock County (10/25, A).
Off to a quick start, the Braves racked up 22 points in the first quarter and 20 points in the second. The Bears got on the board in the second quarter on a 23-yard pass play from quarterback Jimmy Burns to Bryce Shanklin on the nearly 7 minute offensive drive. The Burns-Shanklin combo connected for the two-point conversion.
Union added another touchdown in the third quarter to move ahead 49-8. The Bears scored in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard run by Blake Graham, who also rushed for the two-point conversion. Union held on for the 49-16 win.
The Bears were riddled with injuries, which contributed to the outcome.
