Evacuation At Oak Hill

UPDATE: According to DART officials the strong odor that cause tenants to be evacuated was a combination of several household cleaning products and furniture refinishing chemicals.

Eight tenants in Building B at Oak Hill Apartments have been evacuated after a break-in of the manager’s office.  According to Morgantown Police Sergeant Andy Gidcumb the manager, Cody Flemmings’ office was vandalized.

“Several items were taken and the office was trashed,” said Gidcumb.

The Morgantown Fire Department and EMS was called after a strong chemical odor was detected. The building was evacuated and ventilated.

Unsure of the source of the odor, the local HAZMAT crew was called to the scene to check the oxygen levels and determine evacuation needs.  The regional DART team was called to indentify the chemicals involved. As of 2:00 p.m. Morgantown Police Department is still waiting to hear from DART, so clean up efforts can begin.
