BTN Candidate Profile: Joe Alford/Sheriff
"Hello Butler County! I’m Joe Alford, candidate for Sheriff. I have been blessed to have spent my entire life as a member of the Butler County Community. I am a proud father of 4 children, Grandfather to 3 grandchildren and husband to my beautiful wife, Ashlenn.
I have been privileged to have served with the Sheriff’s Office for over 16 years, proudly. 8 of which I’ve spent as a Sergeant, supervising our deputies on the road and school resource officer programs.
As you can tell, I’m not a politician, just an honest man, dedicated to being a professional public servant, for the community I care deeply for. With your support, I will bring the experience, energy and commitment, the people of Butler County deserve, as your next Sheriff.
If elected, I have 3 issues that will be addressed day 1:
1.) Police Presence
My staff, along with myself, will be seen . There will be visible patrol throughout the county. My office personnel will attend school and community events, not only to ensure safety but to strengthen the public’s trust with law enforcement.
2.) Drugs
Narcotics will be a central focus under my leadership. I will create a strong and effective K9 program. A properly trained K9 and handler, will increase seizures, strengthen criminal cases and discourage narcotics trafficking within our community. The K9 will regularly visit our schools as well.
Additionally, I will reach out to local drug task forces, to verify if participation will be fiscally responsible and in the best interest of our community. A vast amount of crime in our community is rooted in narcotics related activity, making this a priority, if elected Sheriff.
3.) Leadership/Professionalism
I will lead this office from the front. I will be taking calls, I will be rotating between both night and day shifts. I will not be a Monday to Friday 8-4 Sheriff. It is imperative that the men and women who serve in my office, reflect my approach to serving this community and I will accept nothing less. I believe a true leader supports his staff, while also holding them accountable, which will be a cornerstone of my leadership approach.
One of the most important responsibilities a Sheriff has, is ensuring the well being of their staff. I will evaluate my staff, if elected, identifying their strengths/weaknesses. I will then use this to ensure each member of my office is in a role, which best utilizes their individual talents/experience. This will guarantee my office is effective in providing the best service possible to the community.
I believe a great leader, especially one who serves at the will of the you, the voter, must have transparency. I will strive to keep this community informed of my office’s activity, while making myself accessible to the public at all times. It is no secret that a successful law enforcement agency works hand in hand with the public, to address criminal issues. Community Policing requires the trust/confidence of the people and I will fight to earn that each day, if elected.
If elected, I promise to work with the fiscal court to secure the funds needed to run my office responsibly and efficiently, to you the tax payer. This will be a challenge due to the current economic climate but one I am fully prepared to tackle.
I graciously ask for your vote for Butler County Sheriff on May 19th, 2026. With 16 years of experience, I have observed what works, what needs improvement and no one will work harder than I, to maintain a safe community for our families. I eagerly look forward to continuing my service to Butler County, as your next Sheriff. May God bless you all, Butler County and the United States of America."
