Butler County Fiscal Court met on Monday, March 23, at the courthouse.  All magistrates - Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Allen Smith, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant - were in attendance.

The one item in old business was the removal of a section of Belcher Road from county maintenance—a hearing before the fiscal court meeting to allow residents to express their opinions.  The court approved, by a 5-0 vote, removing a section of Belcher Road from county maintenance.  

The new business started with three requests for donations from the court.

The Butler County Arts Guild requested $2,000 (programs and classes offered by the Guild)

The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce requested $5,000 (Catfish Festival advertising, t-shirts, banners, and ads)

Morgantown Trail Town requested $2,500 (events and advertising)

 

No action was taken on the requests as they will be considered during the budgeting process for Fiscal Year 2026-27.

 

Butler County Jailer Kelly Fugate was on hand to answer any questions concerning the 2027 Jail Budget.  Magistrates approved the jail budget ($1,457,527.00)

The court has four certificates of deposit ($250,000 each) maturing at Morgantown Bank & Trust.  Magistrates voted to renew the CD’s at 4.01% for 36 months.

 

The Court approved the following additional items:

• Pay TK Elevator Corporation $202.78 per month for service.
• Pay IMPCO $7,187.00 for a Main Pin Hydraulic Thumb.
• Pay $6,102 for six tires for the Road Grader.
• Mud River Watershed Budget FY2027
• Advertising for Rochester Ferry House and Garage Repair
• Advertising for Rochester Ferry Barge
• Bills and transfers
• Transfer $35,000 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund.
• Transfer $10,000 from the General Fund to the E-911 Fund.
• Transfer ARPA/SLFRF funds to the General Fund.
