Lady Bears defeat Hancock County in overtime

LEWISPORT — Butler County pulled away to defeat host Hancock County 71-58 in overtime in an early-season girls' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Dec. 9. 

Following the win, Butler County improved to 2-1. 

Third Region rivals Butler County and Hancock County exchanged leads throughout the early-season girls' high school basketball game. 

Hancock County led 32-29 at halftime. 

Ann Marie Skaggs paced Butler County, scoring 20 points for the Lady Bears. 

Accompanying Skaggs in double figures for Butler County, Ava Wilson and Carly Cardwell netted 17 points apiece.

Finishing in single digits, Karrington Hunt (nine points), Tinslea Belcher (seven points) and Raylynn Nicewinter (one point) provided the rest of Butler County's scoring.

Butler County returned to the win column after falling to Russell County on Saturday, Dec. 6. Russell County defeated Butler County 68-53. Wilson scored a team-high 21 points for Butler County in the loss to Russell County. 

Butler County is scheduled to visit Whitesville Trinity for a 12th District opener on Friday, Dec. 12. Tip-off for the Butler County-Whitesville Trinity girls' basketball matchup is set for 6 p.m.
