The Butler County Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Phelps to fill the open 5th District board seat.

The Board received interest from five highly qualified individuals, each of whom brought strong credentials, a commitment to students, and a passion for serving Butler County Schools. All candidates interviewed exceptionally well, and the Board extends sincere appreciation for their willingness to serve the district and community.

Following a thorough and thoughtful interview process, Kevin Phelps was selected to fill the vacancy. Mr. Phelps is a proud graduate of Butler County Schools and has been employed with WRECC for the past 7 years. He and his wife, Holly, are active members of the community and have a daughter currently attending North Butler Elementary School. Kevin also has a strong passion for expanding and supporting career pathways that align with local workforce needs, helping prepare students for opportunities right here in Butler County.

Board Chair Dr. Amy Hood-Waddle shared, “We are grateful for the outstanding individuals who expressed interest in this position. Each candidate brought valuable strengths to the process. Kevin’s deep ties to Butler County and his commitment to our students and schools stood out. We look forward to the perspective and dedication he will bring to the Board.”

Kevin Phelps added, “I am honored to be selected to serve the 5th District on the Butler County Board of Education. Butler County Schools played a major role in shaping who I am.  I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the district that invested so much in me. I am especially passionate about strengthening career paths that connect our students to the workforce needs of our community. I look forward to working with our board members, educators, families, and community to support the success of every student.”

The 5th District seat will be open for election in the 2026 General Election.
