Petition submitted to put proposed school tax on ballot

A proposed property tax increase passed earlier this fall by the Butler County Board of Education took a step closer to facing a ballot challenge yesterday as a petition was turned in to Butler County Clerk Sherry Johnson.

Joseph Henderson and Travis McIntosh, with the Put the Nickel Tax on the Ballot-Butler County (Facebook) -  turned in a petition with approximately 736 signatures.  600 verified signatures are needed to recall the proposed nickel school tax and place it on the ballot.  Monday, November 17, was the deadline for the petition to be submitted.

Once the petition is verified the Butler County Board of Education has three options: rescind its previous vote to increase property tax rates, pay for a special election, or let the measure be on the ballot at the next General Election at no cost to the school district.

Below is an article from a previous story about the tax, the petition, and the recall process.
