Granville Allen VFW Auxiliary Veteran of the Year: Bryan Pharris
The Granville Allen VFW Auxiliary proudly recognizes Bryan Pharris, United States Navy (Retired), as the 2025 Veteran of the Year. A decorated service member, dedicated volunteer, and community leader, He continues to exemplify the highest ideals of service, leadership, and patriotism.
Bryan served honorably in the U.S. Navy, completing assignments at several major duty stations including the USS Shenandoah (AD-44) in Norfolk, Virginia; the USS Taylor (FFG-50); BUPERS in Millington, Tennessee; COMSUBGRU 10 in Kings Bay, Georgia; and the USS Roosevelt (DDG-80) in Mayport, Florida: and served with NATO in Turkey
Throughout his distinguished naval career, Bryan earned multiple awards recognizing his professionalism, leadership, and dedication to excellence. His commendations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Navy “E” Ribbon.
After retiring from active duty, Bryan continued his lifelong commitment to service through community leadership and volunteerism. He served as a volunteer firefighter with the 5th District Fire Department. He currently serves as the Senior Vice Commander of Granville Allen VFW Post 5837, Quartermaster of the Department of 5th District VFW and President of the League of Kentucky Sportsmen. His tireless work supporting veterans, promoting outdoor education, and protecting his community reflects an unwavering dedication to helping others.
The Veteran of the Year award reminds us that the spirit of service never ends — it simply takes new forms through leadership, compassion, and a continued commitment to community and country. Few embody that spirit better than Bryan Pharris.
