Bears to host Edmonson County for district matchup

MORGANTOWN — Butler County is set to host Edmonson County for a Class 3A, District 2 matchup on Friday, Sept. 26.

The Bears and Wildcats did not meet during the 2024 high school football season. Familiar foes Butler County and Edmonson County have not met on the gridiron in a few years. Butler County won the last game played between the two high school football teams, rolling past Edmonson County 35-6 on Aug. 26, 2022. 

The Bears and Wildcats are poised to meet on the gridiron for the 25th time since 1998. Edmonson County holds a 13-11 advantage over Butler County in the two high school football teams' past 24 meetings. But Butler County has fared better thus far in the 2025 high school football season. 

The Bears will be looking to return to the win column after suffering back-to-back losses to Grayson County and LaRue County.

Butler County is 3-2. The Bears have registered wins over Breckinridge County, Ohio County and Todd County Central.

During the first half of the 2025 high school football regular season, much-improved Butler County scored 154 points and allowed 108 points.

The Bears are averaging 355.6 yards and 4.4 touchdowns per game. 

Edmonson County is 1-4. The Wildcats defeated Clinton County in late-August. However, Edmonson County has lost games to Grayson County, Muhlenberg County, Breckinridge County and Hart County.

During the first half of the 2025 high school football regular season, Edmonson County scored 99 points and allowed 139 points. 

The Wildcats are averaging 206.8 yards and 2.4 touchdowns per game. 

Butler County has additional regular season games remaining versus Glasgow, Hart County, Adair County and Russellville. 

Edmonson County has additional regular season games remaining versus LaRue County, Adair County, Glasgow and Metcalfe County. 

Kickoff for the Butler County-Edmonson County game is slated for 7 p.m. 

 

Butler County Jr. Pro Football Recognition Night set for Sept. 26
 
MORGANTOWN — Butler County Jr. Pro Football Recognition Night is set to be held on Friday, Sept. 26.
The recognition night will be held as part of the Butler County-Edmonson County football game. The Bears are set to host the Wildcats for a Class 3A, District 2 matchup. 
All Butler County Jr. Pro Football players in uniform and coaches will be recognized on the field at halftime of the high school game.
Kickoff for the Butler County-Edmonson County football game is slated for 7 p.m.
