Bears fall to Cougars, suffer first loss in 2025 season
LEITCHFIELD — Butler County came up short as rival Grayson County held on to win 15-14 in a non-district game on Friday, Sept. 12.
Grayson County dealt Butler County its first loss in the 2025 high school football season. Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 3-1.
Grayson County scored first and never trailed. However, Butler County pushed Grayson County throughout the non-district matchup.
Following a scoreless opening quarter, Grayson County scored first during the second period.
The Cougars clung to a 7-6 lead at halftime.
Grayson County returned to the endzone during the third quarter and moved ahead 15-6.
Butler County scored again in the final quarter but couldn't pull even with the host team.
Quarterback Brody Dockery led Butler County offensively. Dockery completed two touchdown passes for the Bears.

Kevin Robins and Carson Davis each hauled in one touchdown pass reception for visiting Butler County. Dockery completed a five-yard scoring pass to Robins with 30 seconds remaining in the first half. Then, striking again through the air, Dockery connected with Davis on a 27-yard scoring pass with 4:33 remaining in the game.
Dockery completed eight passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns.
Robins and Davis combined to haul in five receptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns.

On the ground, Butler County rushed 25 times for 119 yards. Kaiden Richardson emerged as Butler County's leading rusher. Richardson rushed 16 times for 74 yards.
Defensively for Butler County, Robins recorded a game-high 20 tackles while Brock Henderson tallied 13 tackles. Supplying a turnover for Butler County, Clayton Cardwell recorded an interception.
The Bears slipped into the loss column after reeling off three straight wins over non-district opponents Breckinridge County, Ohio County and Todd County Central.
Butler County is set to compete in its Class 3A, District 2 opener. The Bears are scheduled to visit LaRue County for a Class 3A, District 2 opener on Friday, Sept. 19.
