BUTLER COUNTY BOYS' SOCCER MID-SEASON RECAP

With seven games in the books, the BUTLER COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' SOCCER

team has shown both promise and perseverance in a season that’s been as intense as it is exciting.

The team holds a 3-4 record heading into the mid-point of the Fall 2025 campaign, with 29 goals

scored and 22 allowed—numbers that reflect a squad capable of both explosive offense and

resilient defense.

Leading the charge offensively is none other than junior forward JONATHAN PORTILLO,

who has emerged as one of the region’s most dangerous scoring threats. In just seven games,

PORTILLO has netted an impressive 17 goals, averaging 2.4 goals per game, and accounting

for nearly 60% of the team’s total scoring. His blazing pace and lethal finishing have made him a

nightmare for opposing defenses and a bright spot for Butler County fans.

In addition to his soccer dominance, PORTILLO is now pulling double duty for the Bears. He

recently joined the BCHS football team, taking on extra point and potential field goal kicking

responsibilities in upcoming weeks. His powerful and accurate leg, honed on the soccer field, is

expected to be a valuable asset under the Friday night lights.

Supporting PORTILLO in the attack is sophomore midfielder KEVIN MENDOZA, whose

balanced playmaking has been essential to the team’s offensive rhythm. MENDOZA has tallied

5 goals and 6 assists, contributing to 11 of the team's 29 goals directly. His vision and ability to

control the midfield have made him a key facilitator for the Bears.

Another reliable contributor up front has been junior ELIAZAR CORDONA, who has added 5

goals and 2 assists in six appearances. His consistent offensive presence provides an additional

layer to Butler County’s attack, giving opposing teams more than just PORTILLO to worry

about.

On the defensive end, senior goalkeeper LANDON BEATTY has been a rock between the posts.

In six games, BEATTY has recorded 68 saves, with a strong 11.3 saves per game average. He’s

also managed one shutout, helping keep the Bears in tight contests. Backed by defenders like

ENRIQUE PEREZ and JAMES GOMEZ, who have also stepped in as auxiliary keepers when

needed, the defense has held opponents to just over 3 goals per game—a respectable stat given

the strength of competition.

Veteran leadership from seniors like JESUS FRANSISCO and CARTER WEST has also

played a vital role, even if not reflected heavily in the goal column. WEST, in particular, has

quietly contributed 3 assists, helping drive transition play and maintain possession under

pressure.

With all stat reports filed and no games unaccounted for, the team's strong organization mirrors

their on-field chemistry. The coaching staff will no doubt look to build on this foundation as they

aim for a late-season surge.

If the first half of the season is any indication, BUTLER COUNTY has the talent and

determination to turn the tide and make a push for a winning record. With stars like

PORTILLO, MENDOZA, and BEATTY leading the way—and PORTILLO now showcasing

his athleticism across two sports—the Bears are a team to watch in the weeks ahead.
