HS FOOTBALL: Bears defeat Breckinridge County in season opener
HARNED — Determined Butler County defeated Breckinridge County 42-30 in a 2025 high school football season opener on Friday, Aug. 22.
The Bears turned in a strong performance to win the season opener.
Familiar rivals, Butler County and Breckinridge County met for a non-district matchup.
Butler County scored first, moving ahead 6-0. However, Breckinridge County answered and led 8-6 at the conclusion of the opening quarter.
The Bears and Fighting Tigers were tied 14-14 at halftime.
But Butler County took control of the season opener in the second half and led 34-14 at the conclusion of the third quarter.
Butler County used a balanced offensive attack to claim the win.

Quarterback Brody Dockery led Butler County through the air, delivering two touchdown passes.
Carson Davis was on the receiving end of Dockery's scoring strikes, hauling in two touchdown receptions for the Bears.

Kevin Robins and Kaiden Richardson each excelled on the ground for Butler County during the season opener. Robins and Richardson provided two rushing touchdowns apiece for the Bears.
Butler County registered its second straight win. The Bears beat Ohio County 21-7 in a 2024 season finale.

Butler County is scheduled to host Ohio County for its home opener in the 2025 season at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29.
