BCHS 2025 Football Preseason Preview

The Butler County Bears enter the 2025 season with a revamped schedule. Gone are matchups against Webster County, Bardstown Bethlehem, Logan County, Warren Central, and Franklin-Simpson. In their place, the Bears welcome new opponents: Todd County Central, LaRue County, Edmonson County, Breckinridge County, and Russellville. This fresh slate promises new challenges and opportunities as Head Coach Joshua Robins and his squad look to build forward momentum in year two of his leadership.

Aug. 22 – at Breckinridge County (Away)

2024 Record: 3–8
Breckinridge looks to improve after a tough season. A winnable opener for Butler on the road.

Aug. 29 – vs Ohio County (HOME – Pack the Stands Night)

2024 Record: 0–11
Ohio County continues rebuilding. Butler earned its lone 2024 win over the Eagles (21–7) and should be favored again.

Sept. 5 – vs Todd County Central (HOME – HOMECOMING NIGHT)

2024 Record: 2–9
Todd County struggled last year but plays physical football. This game holds added meaning as Head Coach Joshua Robins faces his former program.

Sept. 12 – at Grayson County (Away)

2024 Record: 9–3
Grayson was a playoff team in 2024 and edged out Butler 35–29. One of the toughest road trips on the schedule.

Sept. 19 – at LaRue County (Away)

2024 Record: 0–11
LaRue had a winless 2024 campaign. A key road test Butler must capitalize on in district play.

Sept. 26 – vs Edmonson County (HOME)

2024 Record: 6–5
A hard-nosed district rival. Edmonson brings physicality and experience. Expect a competitive battle.

Oct. 3 – vs Glasgow (HOME)

2024 Record: 10–2
Glasgow handled Butler 56–14 a year ago. The Bears will need a strong performance to contend.

Oct. 10 – OPEN DATE (No Game)

Oct. 17 – at Hart County (Away)

2024 Record: 12–1
Hart County was one of the region's top teams in 2024 and defeated Butler 50–15. A major challenge deep into the season.

Oct. 24 – at Adair County (Away)

2024 Record: 10–2
Adair County’s explosive offense rolled to a 42–12 win last year. Butler must control the tempo this time around.

Oct. 31 – vs Russellville (HOME – Senior Night)

2024 Record: 6–6
Russellville brings athleticism and speed. A meaningful game to close the regular season on Senior Night.

Seniors Lost: The Bears must replace key veteran leadership from a core group that powered the offense. QB Garrett Phelps started every game under center from 2022–2024, bringing consistency and experience to the huddle. RB Lonnie Phelps and WR Kellon Meredith — the team’s leading receiver in touchdowns — were also vital to the 2024 attack.

Defensively, junior linebacker Kevin Robins returns after leading the team in tackles last season. He’ll be the heart of the defense and a tone-setter at the second level.

Offensively, junior wide receiver Cainan Vincent is expected to take on a larger role as a top target in the passing game. His development will be key for the Bears’ offensive identity.

Senior leadership will be crucial. Veterans Jett Johnson, Will Amos, Christian White, and Zander Stokes are expected to lead both vocally and by example. Sophomore Kainden Richardson and junior Maddox Moore are also key returners who will be counted on to contribute on both sides of the football. Junior Maddox Moore in early June had a non contact torn ACL knee  injury , OUT for season. Most ACL injuries require (9) months recovery after surgery.

The 2025 campaign offers a mix of new opponents, familiar rivalries, and an opportunity for the Bears to take a big step forward. Under the lights, with pride on the line, Bear Nation is ready.
