Natural Gas Line Ruptures, Shuts Down U.S. 231

On Saturday evening just prior to 8:00pm a natural gas leak occurred on Highway 231 in Morgantown. The road was briefly closed and Sonic was shut down.  According to Randall Gaskey, Superintendent of Morgantown Utilities, Chad Johnson ruptured a 2” gas line on his property.

Site of the rupture.
“Fortunately, there was a valve shut off just a few feet from the leak so we were able to shut the gas off within five minutes of arriving on the scene,” said Gaskey.
The gas line served Sonic, Hood’s Market, Green River Lodge and a couple homes. Highway 231 is open and repairs have started.
“After identifying the water and phone lines, we will repair the line tonight,” added Gaskey.
