Patty Craig: A Slice of Time
This spring our region has had quite a few rainy days. On one of those days, I wanted to work outside, but didn’t want to get soaked. After I did some household chores, I began to wonder how to best spend my rainy-day time. I considered using my time to finish some cleaning chores, or to go to Lowe’s to pick up some things, or to do some office work.
Thinking about rainy-day activities, I asked friends and family: “When you get to choose, how do you like to spend a rainy day?” Their responses are listed below.
-Watching movies and resting.
-Reading and sleeping.
-Spend the time with my baby or working on something. The past few rainy days have been spent working on the golf cart and the barn.
-Inside cleaning, reading, or watching TV.
-I like to sit out on the covered porch when it rains and drink coffee.
-I like to nap and read on rainy days.
-If it is storming and raining, I like to sit on the front porch and watch it. If it is a slow rain, I like to lay on the couch and watch a movie.
-Sleeping/napping.
-Reading or baking.
-Stay warm and dry….Perhaps with a good book or a project to complete or simply a nap where thunder doesn’t follow to dreams.
-I don’t get to choose. I have to work on what I can’t work on when it’s not raining….
-I like to spend a rainy day sleeping in and watching movies if possible!
-Oh, if only…. Front porch swing, lap blanket, good book, and a cup of hot coffee.
-Curled up on a couch under a blanket either reading or watching a movie.
-Lay on the couch and watch a movie or read a good book.
-I love to spend rainy days snuggled under a blanket, reading a book.
-I think that I should do something productive.
-Reading, and no one bothers me!
-Doing nothing mostly. But that’s kind of every day.
-Staying home and having a do-whatever, lazy day!
-Cleaning, reading, and folding laundry while watching a favorite movie.
-First, I would want to sleep late, then stay in my pajamas all day, doing nothing, lying on the couch. I would find a movie I like – maybe an old one – and watch it again. I might take a nap sometime during the day. Since my dog doesn’t like to be out in the rain, I wouldn’t take our daily two, long dog walks. At some point, I would have a glass of wine. And if the weather was a little chilly, that would make the day even better.
-Be lazy and maybe nap.
Elizabeth Jane Howard said, ‘A rainy day is like a lovely gift – you can sleep late and not feel guilty.” Emily Wing Smith said, “Being soaked alone is cold. Being soaked with your best friend is an adventure.” And Jeremy Parker said, “It might be raining today but the sun will shine tomorrow.” When I can choose how to spend a rainy day, I choose a form of reading or streaming something to watch on TV. I enjoy the occasional lazy day.
