Beech Tree News presents: "Bears Spotlight" Blake Bratcher
Blake is a senior at BCHS and the son of Ben and Kelly Bratcher of Roundhill. He is a member of the BCHS tennis team and holds leadership roles in organizations such as FFA, Beta Club, and FCCLA.
Throughout high school, Blake has strived to be actively involved in athletics, academics, and the arts, focusing on the things he truly enjoys and is passionate about. His sports journey began at the age of three with baseball, but by his sophomore year, his interest shifted to tennis. He joined the Varsity team and was honored to be considered team captain by his coaches. This role allowed him to connect with his teammates, lead warm-ups, and ensure everyone stays engaged as the team works toward qualifying for state this year.
In the classroom, Blake has maintained a 4.0 GPA and been on the All-A Honor Roll throughout all four years of high school. He is ranked among the top students in his class and was recognized as a Top Junior last year. Beyond these academic accomplishments, Blake earned a certification in the Environmental Services and Natural Resources pathway, achieving the highest score on the certification exam.
As a bass singer in both the chamber and madrigal choirs, Blake has had the honor of competing at the state level with both groups this past year.
Blake currently serves as Vice President of Butler County FFA, Green River Region Reporter, and was recently selected as a Kentucky FFA State Officer Candidate alongside Mikayla Fields, another Butler County native. FFA has been an incredible opportunity for Blake to network with like-minded individuals and has further deepened his commitment to environmental science. This involvement also led to his selection as one of 20 students to serve as a Legislative Page for the Kentucky FFA Legislative Page Program, and he attended the Next Gen: Environmental Services and Natural Resources Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, to deepen his knowledge of environmental issues. He was also honored to be selected by his peers at the Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Camp to serve as Camp Council President.
Blake states that a significant moment in his environmental advocacy came when he was named the District Winner and State Contestant for the Outstanding Farm Bureau Youth Contest, where he delivered a speech on the importance of agroforestry in agricultural production and its potential role in combating climate change.
He is also a two-time President of the Beta Club, Vice President of Parliamentary Law in FCCLA, and a member of a team that earned third place at the national level in parliamentary procedure. Blake also serves as President of the Butler County Junior Conservation Board, where he contributes to a community pollinator garden project and helps facilitate environmental literacy lessons. As Senior Class Vice President, Blake is involved in shaping his class's experiences, and he has also served as a two-time Parliamentarian for FBLA. He is a member of the ETS and Gifted and Talented programs as well.
In addition to all of this, Blake runs a passion project at the Butler County Bear’s Den, where he teaches local children about the environment, agriculture, and sustainability.
Blake loves spending time outdoors, whether that’s hiking, camping, or boating. He also enjoys playing tennis, watching movies, listening to music, reading, and spending quality time with friends and family.
He works part-time at Delbert’s Body Shop, his family’s business, where he has worked since he was younger. This job has helped him develop practical, hands-on skills that will benefit him for life.
This fall, Blake plans to attend the University of Kentucky, where he will double major in Natural Resources and Environmental Science and Public Policy, with a minor in Sustainable Agriculture and a pre-law track. His long-term career goal is to become an environmental attorney, where he can bridge the gap between environmental conservation and agricultural sustainability. He believes it is his responsibility to ensure that agriculture works with the environment rather than against it and aspires to be a leader in this mission.
Since 5th grade, Blake and his family have been working toward the goal of visiting all 120 counties in Kentucky. Recently, they were able to complete that journey, and the opportunity to have explored every corner of our wonderful state is something he is grateful for.
Blake states that a piece of advice he has learned over the years is the importance of making others feel included, heard, and valued in any conversation. This mindset has helped him build stronger relationships, gain new perspectives, and better understand his passions. It has shaped how he leads, works with others, and pursues causes he deeply cares about.
Congratulations on all your achievements at BCHS and best wishes as you become a Kentucky Wildcat, Blake!
