Bears sweep Raiders in district series 

 

MORGANTOWN — Butler County completed a sweep of Whitesville Trinity in a 12th District baseball series on Tuesday, April 22. 

In two games, Butler County outscored Whitesville Trinity 25-6.

Butler County 14, Whitesville Trinity 3 (5 innings): Butler County pulled away to defeat host Whitesville Trinity 14-3 in five innings in the final game of a 12th District baseball series on Tuesday, April 22. 

Eli Oaks started on the mound for Butler County and earned the win. Oaks pitched four innings and recorded five strikeouts.

Duncan Tyree pitched the final inning in relief for Butler County and struck out two Whitesville Trinity batters. 

Butler County scored 14 runs on 10 hits. Tyree (two hits, two RBIs), Garrett Phelps (two hits, four RBIs), Justin Castlen (two hits, one RBI), Brycen Mode (two hits), Sam Hyatt (one hit, one RBI) and Colt Akers (one hit, one RBI) comprised Buter County's offensive attack. Phelps doubled twice for the Bears. 

Following the conclusion of the regular season, both Butler County and Whitesville Trinity will compete in the 12th District Baseball Tournament. 

Butler County 11, Whitesville Trinity 3: Butler County topped visiting Whitesville Trinity 11-3 in the opening game of a 12th District baseball series on Monday, April 21. 

Garrett Phelps pitched a complete game for Butler County and earned the win on the mound. Phelps limited Whitesville Trinity to three runs on five hits while giving up only two walks and recording 10 strikeouts.

Butler County scored 11 runs on six hits. Phelps (one hit, two RBIs), Brycen Mode (two hits, two RBIs), Justin Castlen (one hit, two RBIs), Mason West (one hit), Colt Akers (one hit), Eli Oaks (one RBI) and Duncan Tyree (one RBI) each contributed offensively for 12th District title contender Butler County. Mode. who scored three runs, doubled and tripled for the Bears. 

 

Bears shut out John Hardin 10-0 in five innings

 

MORGANTOWN — Butler County shut out John Hardin 10-0 in five innings on Friday, April 18. 

With the win, Buter County improved to 8-7. 

Butler County pushed across its first run in the bottom half of the second inning.

Gradually pulling away to win convincingly, Butler County scored three runs in each of its last three at-bats to claim the 10-run win. 

Three Butler County pitchers combined to pitch a one-hit shutout. Mason West started on the mound for Butler County, pitched the first one and one-third innings and earned the win

Following West, Duncan Tyree and Garrett Phelps each pitched in relief for the Bears. 

Together, West, Tyree and Phelps recorded 11 strikeouts. 

Butler County scored 10 runs on 12 hits. West (two hits), Tyree (one hit, one RBI), Phelps (four hits, one RBI), Brock Henderson (two hits, two RBIs), Brycen Mode (one hit, two RBIs), Eli Oaks (one hit), Justin Castlen (one hit), Will Amos (one RBI), Sam Hyatt (one RBI) and Colt Akers (one RBI) were each productive offensively in Butler County's shutout win. Both Phelps and Oaks doubled for the Bears. 

 

Bears cruise past Caverna 18-1

 

HORSE CAVE — Butler County cruised past Caverna 18-1 on Thursday, April 17.

With the win, Butler County evened its overall record to 7-7. 

The Bears scored first and never trailed. 

Butler County plated four runs in the top half of the opening inning.

Leading 10-1, Butler County erupted for eight runs during its fifth at-bat.

Justin Castlen started on the mound for Butler County and earned the win. Castlen pitched two and one-third innings and posted five strikeouts.

Both Mason West and Colt Akers pitched in relief for the Bears. West logged four strikeouts while Akers fanned one Caverna batter. 

Butler County scored 18 runs on 13 hits. Castlen (two hits, one RBI), West (one hit), Eli Oaks (three hits, four RBIs), Brycen Mode (three hits, three RBIs), Garrett Phelps (two hits, three RBIs), Clayton Cardwell (one hit, one RBI), Rhett Anderson (one hit) and Will Amos (one hit) each contributed offensively for the Bears. 

Butler County notched its second win over Caverna in the 2025 high school baseball season. The Bears and Colonels aren't scheduled to meet again in the current high school baseball campaign.  

 

Bears come up short in district game versus Wildcats

 

BROWNSVILLE — Edmonson County prevented Butler County from returning to the win column, defeating the Bears 3-1 in a 12th District baseball game on Tuesday, April 15.

The Wildcats scored first and never trailed. Edmonson County pushed across two runs in the bottom half of the third inning.

The Bears cut Edmonson county's lead in half but couldn't pull even. Butler County plated its lone run in the top half of the fifth inning.

Crossing home plate again, Edmonson County added another run in the bottom half of the fifth frame. 

Eli Oaks pitched a complete game for Butler County and suffered the loss on the mound. 

Butler County managed to score one run on three hits. Brycen Mode paced Butler County offensively, finishing two-for-three with a double and one RBI.

Chipping in offensively for the Bears, Sam Haytt added one single.
