BC Baseball: Week One Review
The Butler County High School Baseball team opened their 2025 season this week. The Bears finished week one 1-3. They will be at home for week two on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Bears 3 Logan Co. 6

Butler County Bears fell 6-3 to Logan County on Monday despite out-hitting them 11 to 2. Justin Castlen led Butler County with three hits.
Eli Oaks stepped on the mound first, giving up two hits and three runs over three innings, striking out three and walking two.
Butler County accumulated 11 hits in the game. Will Amos drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Bears with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Brycen Mode and Oaks each collected multiple hits.
Bears 14 Russellville 2
Brycen Mode collected three hits in three at-bats as the Bears defeated Russellville 14-2 on Tuesday. Mode doubled in the fifth inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the fourth inning.
The Bears scored in the first after Will Amos singled, scoring one run.
Butler County added one run in the second after Russellville committed an error.
The Bears added to their early lead at the top of the third inning after Russellville committed an error. Brock Henderson singled down the right field line, and Duncan Tyree singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Butler County scored seven runs on two hits in the top of the sixth inning. Justin Castlen drew a walk, scoring one run; Mode drew a walk, scoring one run; Eli Oaks drew a walk, scoring one run; Garrett Phelps drew a walk, scoring one run; Brock Henderson drew a walk, scoring one run; Brayden Clark drew a walk, scoring one run, and Sam Hyatt drew a walk, scoring one run.
Phelps stepped on the hill first, allowing three hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking four. Clark pitched one inning of no-run ball for Butler County in relief. The pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
Butler County accumulated 10 hits in the game. Amos and Brock Henderson each drove in two runs. Tyree collected two hits in four at-bats. Mason West paced Butler County with two walks. Overall, the team was patient at the plate, collecting nine walks for the game. Mode stole two bases. The Bears stole seven bases in the game and turned two double plays.
Bears 3 Franklin-Simpson 4
A walk-off left Butler County Varsity Bears on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to Franklin-Simpson on Thursday. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the seventh when Carson Kelley singled, scoring one run.
Butler County lost despite out-hitting Franklin-Simpson eight to seven. Brycen Mode and Garrett Phelps each collected two hits.
The Bears captured the lead, 3-2, in the top of the sixth after Justin Castlen singled to center field, Mode singled to center field, and Butler County scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.
Franklin-Simpson took the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the seventh
Duncan Tyree led things off on the mound for Butler County. He surrendered three hits and two runs over five innings, striking out two and walking three.
Mode and Castlen were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the Bears and turned one double play in the game.
Bears 3 Allen County-Scottsville 9

Brycen Mode hit two home runs and drove in two, but Butler County lost to Allen County-Scottsville 9-3 on Saturday. Mode homered in the sixth and seventh innings.
Allen County-Scottsville got on the board in the bottom of the first inning and extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second.
Butler County scored 2 in the top of the sixth inning when Mode hit a solo home run to left field, and an error scored one run.
The Bears scored one run in the top of the seventh on another solo home run to left field by Mode.
Eli Oaks started on the mound. The hurler gave up four hits and six runs (zero earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking one.
Mode and Will Amos each collected two hits, and the Bears made one double play.
Butler County plays at home on Monday against Caverna in their next game.
