Jail budget approved; new flooring, plumbing repairs considered for jailer, clerk

Butler County Fiscal Court met at the courthouse on Monday, March 10. All magistrates were present: Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Allen Smith, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant.

Old Business:

-The court approved the purchase of a 2025 Honda Accord from Gary Force Honda for $28,500 and an additional $2,795 for the cage, lights, and radio installation.  

-The court approved the 2026 Jail Budget of $1,483,312.00.

New Business:

-Butler County Jailer Wayne Russ asked the court for $7,415 for plumbing repair for the jail. After a lengthy discussion and trying to find money in the budget, the court decided to table the request.

-Butler County Clerk Sherry Johnson presented her final settlement. She gave the court a check for $303,878.71.

Johnson then asked the court to replace the flooring in her office. She presented quotes from Williams Flooring and Hometown Flooring. After reviewing the quotes, the magistrates still had questions concerning the quotes and tabled the request. After returning from the closed session, the court approved hiring Kenzie Bryant for 911 dispatch. She will start March 11 at $14 per hour and move to $14.50 once she has completed training.

The court accepted applications for donations from Butler County 4-H ($1,050), Butler County Arts Guild ($2,000), and Hershel House and Woodbury Foundation ($2,000). However, the court did not take action on the requests for next year's budget. 

The court approved renting a commercial manure spreader ($500 per day) to clean up the corn stalks at the Woodbury RV Park.

The Court approved the following:

  • Appointment of Suzanne Brosnan to Butler County Board of Assessment Appeals
  • Radio license Renewal for Sheriff and Fire Department
  • Training incentive Allen Smith
  • Transfer $35,000 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund
  • Transfer $20,000 from the General Fund to the E911 Fund
  • Bills and transfers
