Bears falls to Lou. Butler in Hebrews Classic; Lady Bears drop game to EC

MORGANTOWN — Butler County came up short as Louisville Butler held on to win 82-75 in the Hebrews Classic on Saturday, Feb. 15.

With the loss, Butler County dropped to 15-13. 

Butler County outscored Louisville Butler 15-13 in the opening quarter. 

However, Louisville Butler moved ahead and led 32-29 at halftime.

Extending its lead, Louisville Butler led 59-48 at the conclusion of the third period. 

Ty Price paced Butler County, scoring 32 points for the reigning 3rd Region boys' basketball champion. 

Delivering a double-double for Butler County, Justin Castlen scored 26 points and cleared out 10 rebounds.

Supplying another double-double for Butler County, Trever Deweese scored 10 points and hauled in 13 rebounds. 

Accounting for the rest of Butler County's scoring, Briar Griffin netted seven points. 

The regular season, Butler County will compete in the 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament.

Lady Bears drop district game to Edmonson County 


MORGANTOWN — Butler County couldn't overcome a slow start as Edmonson County pulled away to win 67-45 in a 12th District girls' basketball game on Friday, Feb. 14.

After suffering the loss, Butler County slipped to 10-14 overall and 2-4 in the 12th District. 

Edmonson County started strong, outscoring Butler County 16-6 in the opening quarter.  

The Lady Cats led 26-14 at halftime and maintained an advantage throughout the second half. 

Edmonson County led 45-32 at the conclusion of the third period. 

Ava Wilson paced Butler County, scoring 15 points for the Lady Bears. 

Accompanying Wilson in double figures for Butler County, Carley Cardwell netted 10 points. 

Finishing in single digits, Ann Marie Skaggs (seven points), Bailey Moore (six points), Karrington Hunt (four points) and Isabella Easley (three points) were Butler County's additional scorers.
