Finding Love In Kentucky
Several years ago in February a television station came to the neighborhood asking,“Can you find love in Kentucky?” A few years later an out of town newspaper came searching for love, neither had any success. As Johnny Lee sang these words,“ Looking for love in all the wrong places, Looking for love in too many faces.”
So I asked the only person I thought would have the answer, my Aunt Massie Nash Lindsey. My Aunt, dad and siblings moved from the Creek place in 1939, to the Homeplace. Before the Nash family moved in, Lulee Goodwin replaced a door with a window in the back bedroom and operated the Love post office from that window. Customers could use the horseshoe drive to enter and exit the Love post office. Even though the Homeplace is no longer there, the horseshoe drive is still visible.
Our road is named Love-Lee Rd. The Lee post office was operated a few more miles up the road out of Emerson Justis store. When we are asked to give our address it is mistakenly spelled Lovely. We respell it Love-Lee Rd. Aunt Massie and I
i agree it’s a lovely place to live, we call it Home. I wanted to write this in tribute to our Aunt Massie who keeps us up to date on family history, family stories and community. I guess you can say we found love in Kentucky, the love of God, love of the land, love of home, love of family, love of community and love of our Country! Thank you Aunt Massie, We love you!
