Bears lose to Calloway County on neutral court

OWENSBORO — Butler County suffered a loss on a neutral court as Calloway County pulled away to win 56-44 in the First Commonwealth Mortgage Classic at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Saturday, Feb. 1.  

Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 11-12. 

The Bears and Lakers swapped lead during the game. 

Butler County outscored Calloway County 20-19 in the opening quarter but faltered.

Calloway County moved ahead in the second period and eventually led 33-24 at halftime.

The Lakers led 45-41 at the conclusion of the third quarter. 

Briar Griffin scored 19 points for the Bears. Griffin was the only Butler County player to reach double figures.

Narrowly missing double figures for Butler County, Justin Castlen scored nine points and Curtis Murphy netted eight points.

Aiding Butler County offensively, Trever Deweese added five points and Case Hooten contributed three points. 

Leading scorer Ty Price did not play for the Bears. 

Butler County is scheduled to host Warren Central for its next game on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Tip-off for the Butler County-Warren Central boys' basketball game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
