Bears win over Hancock and McLean, fall at Breck

Bears suffer four-point loss to Breckinridge County

HARNED — Butler County slipped into the loss column as Breckinridge County held on to win 80-76 on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

With the loss, Butler County dropped to 11-10.

Butler County started strong, outscoring Breckinridge County 32-18 in the opening quarter.

The Bears led 54-44 at halftime but faltered late in the game.

Prior to being limited during the final quarter, Butler County led 65-59 at the conclusion of the third period.

Justin Castlen paced Butler County, scoring 23 points for the Bears.

Joining Castlen in double figures for Butler County, Ty Price scored 19 points, Briar Griffin netted 14 points and Curtis Murphy posted 11 points.

Rounding out Butler County's scoring. Case Hooten added four points, Trever Deweese contributed three points and Garrett Phelps chipped in two points.

Butler County is scheduled to visit Grayson County for a 12th District boys' basketball game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31.

 

Bears roll past Hornets for fourth straight win

Griffin dishes out school record 15 assists for Butler County

 

MORGANTOWN — Butler Country rolled past Hancock County 75-31 to claim its fourth straight win on Monday, Jan. 27.

With the win, Butler County improved to 11-9.

Butler County set the tone early, outscoring Hancock County 34-5 in the opening quarter.

The Bears led 51-14 at halftime and remained in control throughout the second half.

Butler County led 64-21 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Briar Griffin set a single game school record with 15 assists in Butler County's win.

Justin Castlen scored a game-high 24 points for the Bears. Accompanying Castlen in double figures for Butler County, Trever Deweese netted 23 points while Griffin and Curtis Murphy scored 10 points apiece.

Chipping in offensively for Butler County, Case Hooten, Cainan Vincent, Carson Davis and Garrett Phelps added two points apiece.

Standout Ty Price did not play for the Bears.

 

Bears beat McLean County 78-58

CALHOUN — Remaining in the win column, Butler County pulled away to beat 3rd Region rival McLean County 78-58 on Saturday, Jan. 25.  

Butler County notched its third straight win, improving to 10-9. 

The Bears overcame a slow start to win convincingly.

McLean County outscored Butler County 17-14 in the opening quarter.

But Butler County managed to enter halftime ahead 36-28.

The Bears, under the direction of Coach Calvin Dockery, led 53-49 at the end of the third period.

Justin Castlen paced Butler County in its win, scoring 26 points for the Bears.

Following Castlen in Butler County's scoring column, Briar Griffin netted 19 points.

As part of a diverse offensive attack for Butler County, Ty Price and Trever Deweese scored 14 points apiece.

Rounding out Butler County's scoring, Curtis Murphy added three points and Case Hooten contributed two points.
