BCHS Football: Bears drop home opener

MORGANTOWN — Butler County dropped its home opener as Warren Central held on to win 17-14 in a non-district game on Friday, Sept. 6. Following the loss, Butler County slipped to 0-3.
Warren Central scored first and never trailed. However, Butler County challenged for the win.
Warren Central outscored Butler County 8-0 in the opening quarter.

Remaining out in front midway through the game, Warren Central led 14-0 at halftime.
Extending its lead, Warren Central led 17-0 at the conclusion of the third quarter.
Prior to falling short, Butler County scored two touchdowns in the final period.

Garrett Phelps paced Butler County through the air in the matchup, completing 10 passes for 136 yards and one touchdown.
Kellon Meredith emerged as Butler County's top receiver, hauling in six receptions for 62 yards and one touchdown.
Butler County rushed 30 times for 272 yards and one touchdown. Lonnie Phelps paced Butler County on the ground, rushing 16 times for 173 yards.
Reaching the endzone via the ground, Garrett Phelps rushed 12 times for 87 yards and one touchdown.
Delivering on special teams for Butler County, kicker Braden McKinney made both of his extra-point kick attempts.
Kevin Robins (15 tackles, three tackles for losses) and Tucker DeJarnette (12 tackles, two tackles for losses, two sacks) combined to pace Butler County defensively.

Butler County is scheduled to host Grayson County for another home game on Friday, Sept. 13.
