Butler County Homemakers travel to Hodgenville

On August 8th a group of Butler County Homemakers traveled to Hodgenville for a time of learning and fun.  The day started with a visit to Lincoln’s Birthplace.  After viewing the informational film, we made our way up the 56 stairs to see the cabin where the future president was born.  Did you know the 56 steps are representative of the 56 years of Lincoln’s life?

Next, we drove around Hodgenville’s town square where statues of Abe are located.  The town embraces their heritage with several businesses including “Lincoln or Abe” in their names.  While there, you can even listen to some music on ABE 93.7.

We ended our travels with a stop at the Whistle Stop Café in Glendale.  Fried green tomatoes are something you definitely need to try.  Everyone enjoyed their meal and those who still had room enjoyed some wonderful desserts.

This is the first of at least three trips that the Homemakers will take while participating in the KEHA Day Trip Contest.  If you would like to know more about Homemakers or upcoming trips, please contact the Butler County Extension Office.  We would love to have you be part of our great organization.
