Bears to host Breckinridge, McLean for first scrimmage

The 2024 BCHS Bears football program will host a controlled scrimmage on Friday, August 9 at 6 p.m. on the BCHS campus.  This will be a tri-scrimmage with Breck Co. HS, and McLean Co., and Butler Co. HS.

The guidelines of the first scrimmage of the season are as follows: 1- the format is usually the coaches are allowed on the field and working closely with the players.  2- the format is often 10 offensive, 10 defensive plays, and then rotate out since three teams are engaged in the scrimmage. So, one team will always be sitting out; but ready to rotate in.  Game officials will work the scrimmage, and often two sets of officials are on site, as training for new incoming KHSAA game officials.

The format as the scrimmage goes on into the night may change to down and distance and real live game situations. The first scrimmage will NOT involve live kicking game. Punting and kickoffs, and Field Goal or extra points attempts may happen but none of the kicking game will be live.

Scrimmage one is about getting as many quality reps as possible and to get a look at as many kids as possible. Varsity team reps or plays on both offense and defense are the purpose. The younger players or the JV, or freshman teams may get reps towards the end of the scrimmage.

Keep in mind, not knowing how many players both Breck Co. and McLean Co. will bring will play a factor in deciding how many reps the young players will get in this first scrimmage.

The Butler Co. Quarterback Club is asking that fans bring donations in the form of washing detergent, pod, or liquid are much needed in bulk and much appreciated. Butler Co. Quarterback Club President Amber Martin is the contact person, all donations much appreciated.

So again, we welcome one and all this Friday, August 9th to come catch the first look at the 2024 edition of the Butler Co. High School Varsity Football team, players, & coaching staff. Start time is at 6 p.m.
