Arrest on parkway leads to drug charges, endangering a minor

A Somerset woman was arrested earlier today, Saturday, December 17, on the William Natcher Parkway (I-165) following a reckless driving complaint.  Officers with the Morgantown Police Department observed the vehicle, driven by Ashley Sowder, having difficulty staying in its lane.  Following a traffic stop, officers determined that Sowder was intoxicated and in possession of what appeared to be methamphetamine and additional drug paraphernalia.  She also had three children, ages 13, 9, and 3, who were near the suspected drugs and multiple needles.

Sowders was lodged in the Butler County Jail.  She is charged with possession of a controlled substance (1st degree, 1st offense, methamphetamine); possession of drug paraphernalia; operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substance (1st offense); and endangering the welfare of a minor.

The children were released a short time later to family members who arrived from Jasper, Indiana.
