Lady Bears to host Cumberland County for opener

MORGANTOWN — Poised to make a debut, Butler County is scheduled to host Cumberland County for its opener in the 2022-23 girls' high school basketball season on Friday, Dec. 2.
Off to a winning start in the 2022-23 girls' high school basketball season, Cumberland County is 1-0. The Panthers pulled away to defeat Adair County 68-37 in a season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
Butler County is the reigning 12th District girls' basketball champion. The Bears, under the direction of Coach Lexie Belcher, compiled a 25-4 record in the 2021-22 girls' high school basketball season. Butler County was one of the most improved hoops teams in Region 3 during the 2021-22 girls' high school basketball campaign.
Following a loss in the semifinals of the 16th District Girls' Basketball Tournament, Cumberland County exited the 2021-22 season 14-14. Coach Kristen Anderson guides the Panthers.
Butler County and Cumberland County, rivals from bordering regions, did not meet during the 2021-22 girls' high school basketball season.
The opening tip for the Butler County-Cumberland County girls' basketball game is set for 7 p.m.
