Unbeaten Bears to visit Hancock County

MORGANTOWN — Unbeaten Butler County is preparing to visit Hancock County for its next game in the 2022 high school football season on Friday, Sept. 30.

The Bears and Hornets are due to battle in a Class 2A, District 2 matchup. 

Butler County is 5-0 overall and in Class 2A, District 2. The Bears have notched wins over Russellville, Edmonson County, Breckinridge County, Grayson County and McLean County.

Through five games, Butler County has outscored opponents 177-44. 

Excelling on the ground, Butler County has rushed 172 times for 1,443 yards and 21 touchdowns. Leading the Bears' offensive attack, Brody Hunt has rushed 44 times for 597 yards and six touchdowns.

Hancock County is 5-1 overall and 0-1 in Class 2A, District 2. The Hornets have posted wins over Breckinridge County, Muhlenberg County, Ohio County, Edmonson County and Tell City (Ind.). Hancock County lost to Class 2A, District 2 rival Owensboro Catholic in its last outing on Friday, Sept. 23.

Through six games, Hancock County has managed to outscore opponents 232-78. The Hornets' offense is nearly balanced. Hancock County has completed 45 of 75 passes for 850 yards and 13 touchdowns. On the ground, Hancock County has rushed 135 times for 820 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Leading the Hornets' offensive attack, quarterback Cole Dixon has completed 42 of 69 passes for 815 yards and 12 touchdowns. Dixon has thrown three interceptions. '

Hancock County outlasted the Bears 28-22 in overtime for a district win during the 2021 high school football season. 

Kickoff for the upcoming Butler County-Hancock County football game is set for 7 p.m.
