Dr. Ghayth Hammad: "Know These FOUR Numbers"
How many people have memorized their social security number or their bank account number, but do not know possibly the four most important numbers that affect them the most? These four numbers can be the biggest indicator you have regarding your overall health. These numbers would be: 1. Blood Pressure 2. Fasting sugar 3. Cholesterol 4. Body Mass Index (BMI). Why are these four numbers so important? These four numbers are critical when assessing your cardiovascular risk. Unlike your family history, ethnicity and gender – which cannot be changed – these factors can be altered by the choices you make every day.
Let's look at the target numbers in these four areas. First, our blood pressure. The target goal for a blood pressure reading is 120/80. If your blood pressure is reading above these numbers you may have hypertension. Second, your fasting blood sugar. Normal numbers for this are 80-120. Any fasting sugar above 120 is too high. Third, cholesterol. Normal total cholesterol reading should be less than 200. Lastly, your BMI. This number can tell us what a healthy weight is for you, and if obesity needs to be addressed in your plan of care. Normal numbers for our BMI range from 18-24. Any number above 24 is considered obese.
Many employers promote knowing these numbers, and may provide benefits to you by knowing them. Let us help you KNOW YOUR NUMBERS. Call 270-526-9652 to schedule an appointment today.
