Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain
I’ve been a collector of several things through the years: video games, magazines, cassette tapes, CD’s, video games, concert tees, UK tees, etc. Okay, the tee’s are more of a necessity. It’s not like I just buy them and put them up. I do wear them. Lately, I’ve started(rather, restarted) collecting action figures and figurines.
I have each member of the Big Bang Theory cast in miniature bobblehead form. All I’m missing are a Bernadette and Amy Farrah Fowler. I’ve looked and looked to no avail. I guess online is my next destination. Though I’ve come up empty there as well, as I do look from time to time. One day, while at FYE in the mall, I randomly bought a collectors series Fin Balor figure. For the uninitiated, Fin Balor is a wrestler. I wouldn’t mind collecting some more of those.
I love browsing in GameStop. Occasionally there will be a PS4 game I really want that I’ll get with one of my GameStop gift cards I get for either birthday or Christmas. I can be somewhat of a gift card hoarder and it pays off. For instance, several months ago, I saw one of my favorite games from my childhood, Bad Dudes, on MyArcade mini. I ordered it straight away.
Today, I began a new collection, though I didn’t aim to do so. I had some time to kill at the mall so I got a couple of Christmas gifts. After doing that and getting a haircut, I was walking along when something in the window at GameStop caught my eye. Laying right there on the cashier desk were Thundercats action figures!
The first figure I saw was Lion-O. I picked it up. I saw Mumm-Ra, Lion-O’s nemesis. I picked it up. I saw a couple more but felt I needed to cut myself off at two. Besides, Christmas is coming! Thundercats was from when I was a kid. When I saw the figures, the kid in me returned. I might even have to see if I can find the old carton-or at least the theme song! It’d make a cool ringtone!
