61st Annual Rural Development Meeting
The 61st annual meeting and dinner of the five Butler County Rural Development Clubs was held on Saturday, October 27, in the newly relocated Extension Service Office located at 102 Parkway Lane in the freshly remodeled former Pamida building.
“This is our first big event in this newly remodeled building,” Greg Drake of the Extension Office told the large crowd of hard-working folks assembled in the Raburn and Lucille Hood meeting room.
The almost 150 attendees from the communities Little Muddy, Big Bend, Provo, Reedyville, and Gilstrap, enjoyed a potluck dinner from the county’s most excellent cooks, drinks and refreshments, a large variety of desserts, and live entertainment provided by the Youth Handbell Choir of First Baptist Church that performed after the business meeting.
Also as part of the event was the first annual pecan pie contest in which Renee Basham from Reedyville was declared the winner. “With a new building, the bellringers, and having the time for fellowship with other members, this was a great evening in Butler,” said Mary Basham, one of the participants.
Elected officials present included Senator C.B Embry, Judge-Executive David Fields, Coroner Marty Jones, County Clerk Sherry Johnson, PVA Suzanne Brosman, Magistrate Chad Tyree, and Jailer Ricky Romans. A special guest at the event was Maggie Drake winner of the Chamber of Commerce’s outstanding youth award.
