Butler County Stockman’s Association has an Active March
The Butler County Stockman’s Association has had an active March. On March 10th, the Stockman’s Association held its 8th Annual Livestock Sale. There were 60 head consigned to the sale. Consigners were from Butler, Grayson, and Logan County. Mr. A.J. Woosley sold the cattle. There was a very dedicated group of volunteers that organize and put on the sale. This group of Stockman’s Association members began planning in September 2017 to make the sale run smoothly.
Average Sale Prices are as follows:
Bred Heifers, Spring Calve: $1,490
Bred Heifers, Fall Calve: $1,150
Open Heifers: $1,050
Bulls: $2,000
On March 22nd, the Stockman’s Association had its Annual Meeting. About 55 members and guests gathered to celebrate the year’s accomplishments. The Association awarded a $500 scholarship to a young lady who is planning to continue her education after she finished Butler County High School. The winners of the 2017 Forage Quality Contest were recognized and are as follows:
Grass Hay Division: Winner- Mike Martin
Runner Up-Craig Cohron
Legume or Grass/Legume Mix: Winner-Danny Farris
Runner Up-Mile Martin
Baleage Division: Winner-Mike Hunt
Runner UP-Craig Cohron
Craig Cohron presented a program on removing Ky. 31 fescue from your farm without losing a year of production. A board of directors and officers were elected at the close of the meeting. The officers of the Butler County Stockman’s Association for 2018 are as follows: President-Richard Tucker, Vice-President-Gerald Tyree, Secretary-Amanda Arnold, and Treasurer-Melvin Bowles. Chad Tyree will serve as Past-President for 2018.
