Don Locke: Lookin Thru Bifocals
The Japanese florist came out of his greenhouse; got on his potty chair and rode off.
How is that for a dream? That was in one of my in and out dreams lately; where you are sort of asleep, and sort of awake-more of a word dream than a picture dream I’d guess. Scientists still know very little about dreams-as far why we dream what we dream. Oh they talk about REM (rapid eye movement) sleep being the soundest sleep etc. But the substance of our dreams? They still don’t know, the why.
I do know in my own experience, my dreams seem to be made of bits and pieces of things past and present that come together in one dream for some reason. Recently I heard a TV minister say that we are not responsible (morally) for our dreams, a TV listener had written him asking him if we are accountable to God for what we dream. Evidently the woman listener was worried that she could be sinning. As for my own potty-chair dream; some years back I saw an old guy go through town in his pickup truck, hauling a potty chair.
I thought for a moment that maybe he was prone to bouts of the “green-apple-quickstep” or some other malady. Come to find out later the “convenience” was for a family member. As for the Japanese florist in my dream (remember bits and pieces): I read a story in flying magazine where this guy had sold hid light airplane- a small two-place Luscome- to a Japanese florist and nursery man. Nursery man used in his business. Just a week or so ago I heard where a real sick friend was finally able to get out of bed and use a potty chair. Now, for some reason my scrambled brain in my sleep put the Japanese florist-nursery men, the airplane, and the potty-chair together, and came up with my off-the-wall dream. Go figure.
To you airplane-buffs, out there in “radio land”, you may recall that the Luscome Silvare was, to my knowledge, the first all-medal light plane. It was side-by-side, and in place of control yokes it had two sticks.
And, whoever invented the potty chair I’m glad. I may need one someday… but not yet. The wheels on the bus go round and round.
Kindest regards…..
