Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

Every once in a while, an event takes place that’s once in a lifetime.  Sports-wise, the once in a lifetime event could be your team winning a championship.  What I’m talking about, though, is once in a lifetime events such as the total eclipse this past Tuesday.  Nothing like an eclipse party in a field, am I right?

We left a little after 11 am.  Had to get a good parking spot, right? Obviously we had our eclipse glasses in tow.  Wouldn’t want to cause any permanent damage.  We were even provided with a solar eclipse goodie bag with a Milky Way candy bar, Capri Sun, Eclipse gum, Starburst and a Moon Pie.  Props to Shane and Felicia Wells for the viewing location and goodies.

I planned to take a selfie with the instructions I gathered from GMA that morning.  Instead, I took pictures and video.  Now I’m looking at everyone else’s and thinking theirs are better.  Really, I’ve seen some good pictures and video from friends.

I didn’t know what to expect.  Who did? The date of the last eclipse was February 26, 1979-three months before I was born.  I loved how cool it was.  Yes, it was cool, but I’m talking about temperature.  Temps went down some 20 degrees.  It was like it was night.  It was dark.  Crickets were going crazy.  I’d say animals were confused but, honestly, animals sleep in the daytime anyway.  I’m pretty sure they’d be like, “eclipse? What eclipse”?

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.-Psalms 19:1
