BCHS Swim Team

Butler County High School Girls Swim Team participated in KHSAA Region 2 Championships for the first time on February 10th & 11th.   This year's team consists of three young ladies representing Butler County, sophomore, Alyssa Swift and seventh graders, Hannah Winchel and Mattie Smith.  Due to there being no indoor pool in Butler County these three swimmers travel to Bowling Green several days a week in order to practice. Alyssa practices with RACE Aquatics and Hannah and Mattie both practice with SKY Swimming (Southern Kentucky Swimming). Butler County is coached by Wendy Swift, who volunteers her time so that these girls can participate in high school swim.
Friday at Preliminaries Alyssa competed in the 100 yard Freestyle finishing  37th and 100 yard breaststroke finishing 31st.  Hannah Winchel competed in the 50 yard freestyle finishing 35th and the 100 yard butterfly finishing 22nd.

Mattie Smith qualified to return for finals on Saturday finishing in the top 16 in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events.
Mattie Smith returned Saturday to compete in finals.  Mattie was able to snag her first High School Regional Medal finishing 6th in the 500 yard freestyle.  She also finished 11th in the 200 yard freestyle.  High School season has come to a close but competition has not for Mattie, she will compete in USA Swimming KYLSC 13 & Over State Championships at the University of Kentucky in March in the 500 yard freestyle and 1000 yard freestyle events.
"It has been a great season and we look forward to what next season may bring," said Coach Swift.
