Butler County Board of Education @ Green River School

The Butler County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, September 13, at Green River School.  Board members Amy Hood, Delbert Johnson, and Debbie Hammers were in attendance; Charles Price and Ryan Daugherty were unable to attend.

Lloyd Spivey, assistant superintendent of Green River Youth Development Center, welcomed everyone and shared about the school.  According to Spivey, the school’s population is down by almost one half.  “We are averaging 22 boys and currently have 17.  Once upon a time, we could say we had 40 kids.  Mr. Annis is having to do a whole lot more with a whole lot less.” Ben Annis, principal of Green River School, said great things are happening at the school and commented that he has dedicated this school year to Mike Cardwell, a teacher at the school who is retiring this year.
Eric Elms, Finance Officer for Butler County Schools
Eric Elms, Finance Officer for Butler County Schools, shared the treasurer’s report for August. The beginning balance was $1,591,509.58, and the balance at the end of the month was $1,501,190.31. 

Superintendent Scott Howard reported on several of the meetings he has recently attended.  He and the other Boys’ and Girls’ Club Board of Directors have met and are working to expand the charter club at North Butler Elementary because of increasing participation numbers. Mr. Howard also said that he attended the Butler County Extension Council Meeting and would like to partner with them on using a building in which the archery teams could practice. Howard announced that the Butler County Schools retiree luncheon will be September 28th, and said the 18 retirees will be presented with something for their service to Butler County Schools.
Jessie McKee, BCHS baseball booster president
The board approved several trips and requests, including a spring break trip for the high school baseball team. Jessie McKee, BCHS baseball booster president, attended the meeting and asked the board to approve a trip for 12 players to attend a tournament in Pensacola, Florida. After discussion about transportation, the board approved the trip request.

•    Butler County Schools 2015 Renovations Direct Payment Number #7 (FINAL) to Jenkins-Essex Construction, Inc. in the amount of $96,108.83
•    Butler County Schools 2015 Renovations BG-4 Contact Closeout Form
•    FY 17 KECSAC (GRS) Memorandum of Agreement and FY 17 Budgets
•    FY 17 Fund 2 Budgets
•    BCMS Jr. Beta and Academic Team Trip Request to Visit the Hermitage and the Parthenon at Centennial Park in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 11, 2016
•    BCMS Jr. Beta Trip Request to Attend the Junior State Convention in Lexington, Kentucky, on February 15-17, 2017
