GOP Presidential Caucus: Trump takes Butler County and wins statewide

The first-ever Republican Presidential Caucus for Kentucky is now officially over and Donald Trump carried the day.  Trump, the GOP frontrunner, won Butler County with a little over 43% of the vote; Texas Senator Ted Cruz garnered just under 26 percent; Florida Senator Marco Rubio finished a distant third with 15.8 percent of the vote.  In raw vote totals, Trump received 564 votes; Cruz had 339 votes; Rubio tallied 208 votes.

Statewide, Trump won witn 35.9 percent of the vote; Cruz had 31.5 percent; Rubio had 16.3 percent; and Ohio Governor John Kasich notched 14.4 percent.  In the proportional delegate race for Kentucky, Trump is estimated to have won 16 delegates; Cruz - 14 delegates; Rubio - 7 delegates; Kasich - 6 delegates. 

With 1,111 voters showing up to vote, Butler County had a relatively high voter turnout based on previous presidential primaries and what state party officials were expecting.
