Rural housing focus of Chamber's February luncheon
The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held its monthly luncheon on Thursday, February 25 at the Butler County Extension Service office. Eric Kennedy, the loan assistant at the USDA Rural Development office at 975 Lovers Lane in Bowling Green, was the guest speaker for the monthly event.
The focus of Kennedy’s speech Thursday was to bring attention to rural development and the services available to low-income residents of rural America. Kennedy said because the USDA allots no funding to advertising people who are eligible for programs can fall through the cracks. “We’ve got individuals we can help and our services are underutilized in this area,” Kennedy said. Kennedy said he works specifically with applicants for the Section 502 program, which is primarily used to help low-income individuals or households purchase homes in rural areas, a USDA press release said.
