Pennies for Patients

An estimated 52,380 new cases of leukemia are expected to be diagnosed in the United States in 2014 according to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  To help raise awareness at Butler County High School the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is sponsoring a Pennies for Patients Project. Pennies for Patients is an organization that helps raise and plan fundraisers for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. So far at BCHS we have had an awareness week, where students participated in dressing up each day of the week. For example, on Monday students wore red for blood cancer. We have had one hat day where students were allowed to wear a hat for $1 and we plan to have one more hat day. During lunch we sold Christmas ornaments for 25 cents and hung them on a tree. Also, to raise money we worked concessions at a home basketball game. To get our chapter involved we had FCCLA members bring in crayons, coloring books, and little stuffed animals to donate to the local children’s hospital. If you would like to donate to FCCLA’s Pennies for Patients cause or donate new crayons, coloring books, or little stuffed animals contact Lauren Tyree at (270)526-1359 or Gracie Deel at (270)999-6505 for more information.
