Lake Malone Public Meeting

Date:
Tuesday, May 28, 2019 - 6:30pm

Focus on maximum number of stairs and landings allowed along shore

FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 17, 2019) — The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will hold a meeting May 28 to gather public input concerning a request to amend current regulations for privately-owned staircases and landings on public property at Lake Malone (301 KAR 1:016).

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. (Central time) at Muhlenberg County South Elementary School, 2005 U.S. 431, Beechmont.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife owns a shoreline buffer around the lake. To access the water from their lots, landowners must receive an exemption to build on public property.

The department has received a request to double the number of steps and landings allowed on the department-owned shoreline buffer around the lake. An increase to 72 steps as part of this request would provide access for cliffside lots that are 24 to 30 feet above the lake.

Landowners who cannot attend the meeting may provide written comments to Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. Comments may be emailed to [email protected], or letters mailed to:

The department must receive all comments by June 3. The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission will review comments and discuss the request at its June 7 meeting at the headquarters campus in Frankfort. The commission meeting is open for the public.

As part of its public notification efforts, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife is sending letters to all known landowners around Lake Malone.
