Happy Feet was created in 2009 by Jerry Baird, a retired coal miner from Union County, KY. In the beginning, Jerry reached out to his local school superintendent in hopes of receiving permission to create a committee that worked directly with students in the schools.

The Butler County Chapter NSDAR held their annual Silver Awards Tea on Thursday, April 27 in the Lucille Hood Room of the Butler County Public Library. There was a capacity crowd as many parents and other relatives came to see the students recognized for their achievements.
