Drake's Farm Service host "Moondog Madness" coyote hunt

First-place winners were Chris Hollman and Devin Skipworth

Drake's Farm Service held their first coyote hunt challenge, "Moondog Madness," on February 23-26. Two to three-person teams competed for prize money for the highest number of coyotes and the heaviest coyote.  

Participants turned a total of 23 coyotes. Over $1,000 in prize money was awarded.

First-place winners were Chris Hollman and Devin Skipworth. The team also turned in the heaviest coyote at 39 pounds.

Butler County outlasts Edmonson County in district tournament

LEITCHFIELD — Butler County outlasted Edmonson County 44-41 in the semifinals of the 12th District Girls' Basketball Tournament at Grayson County High School on Monday, Feb. 26.

Following the win, Butler County improved to 17-13.

 

Edmonson County ended its season 21-8 after suffering the loss. 

Butler County started strong, outscoring Edmonson County 16-10 in the opening quarter.

      The regular season has ended for KHSAA high school boys and girls basketball in the Bluegrass. The most anticipated part of the season play begins Monday, February 26th, as every district (64) total in the state.

Willoughby ranked third in Preseason Region 3 Player Rankings

MORGANTOWN — Butler County sophomore catcher/infielder/outfielder Parker Willoughby is ranked third in the Preseason Region 3 Softball Player Rankings. 

The rankings were compiled after voting was conducted among the coaches in the region. 

A longtime leader for Butler County, Willoughby excelled throughout the 2023 high school softball season. Willoughby batted .464 with 45 hits, 20 RBIs, 12 doubles, two triples and two home runs as a freshman in 2023.

Price sets school record in Bears' win over Cougars

CALHOUN — Junior guard Ty Price made a school record 12 three-point field goals and scored 43 points to lead Butler County over McLean County 75-54 on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Butler County improved to 18-8 after posting the win.

As a result of the loss, McLean County dropped to 15-11.

Setting the tone, Butler County outscored McLean County 14-6 in the opening quarter.

The Bears led 25-18 at halftime and stretched their lead after the intermission period.

Extending its lead, Butler County exited the third quarter out in front 52-33.

Lady Bears wrap up regular season play

MORGANTOWN — Butler County was limited offensively as Daviess County pulled away to win 61-36 in a girls' high school basketball regular season finale on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Following the loss, Butler County dropped to 16-13.

Daviess County improved to 21-7 after notching the win. 

Butler County faced a deficit in each quarter.

Visiting Daviess County led 37-14 at halftime.

Ann Marie Skaggs scored 14 points to lead the Lady Bears. Skaggs was the only Butler County player to reach double figures.

Tournament Time / BCHS Basketball

The 12th District Girls/Boys Basketball tournament will be played at Grayson Co. High School the week of February 26 through March 1st.  Regular season play between the schools decides how the brackets and games are set. Here are some quick facts and need to know information for the tournament. General admission is $5. 

         Monday, February 26….. Girls Varsity Doubleheader basketball games Trinity Lady Aces vs Grayson Co. Lady Cougars at 6:00pm; then followed by Butler Co. Lady Bears vs Edmonson Co. Lady Wildcats at 7:30pm.

Bears drop game to Colonels in Hebrews Classic

MORGANTOWN — Butler County was held to a season-low point total as Henderson County pulled away to win 72-53 in the Hebrews Classic on Saturday, Feb. 17. 

As a result of the loss, Butler County dropped to 17-8. 

The Bears slipped into the loss column after notching three straight wins. 

Delivering a double-double, Lawson Rice scored 19 points and cleared out 13 rebounds to lead the Bears.
