Beech Tree News presents: "Bears Spotlight" Ty Price

Ty is the starting point guard for the 12th district championship and 3rd region championship basketball team. He helped lead his team to an undefeated season against 3rd region opponents this year. He is a junior at BCHS and the son of the late Mike and the late Laura Price.Ty was born and raised in the Sugar Grove community of Butler County. Ty’s mom, Laura, passed away when he was six years old. Ty’s dad, Mike, raised him until his death in 2021. In August 2022, Ty lost his older brother, Lauren, to cancer. 


Despite his tremendous loss and hardships at the hand of losing both parents and his brother, Ty focused on basketball and improving his game. His sister Ashley, aunt Lisa and trainer Greg all stepped up to make sure he had the opportunities he needed to succeed.


Ty began playing basketball in the Butler County Junior Pro league. In middle school, he was a part of the 7th grade GRVC championship team. In the offseason, he plays AAU basketball for Grand Park Premier and spends lots of time in the gym improving his game. 


Ty also works hard in the classroom maintaining a 4.0 GPA. He is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Spanish Club and NAC. When he’s not in a gym, he enjoys hanging out with his friends and watching movies.


Ty scored over 1,000 points this season and is currently third in the state in scoring. He is also in the 2,000 point club for career points.


He made 141 3’s last season, ranking him third all time, and surpassed his record this season with 143 made 3’s and counting.  Ty ranks second in the state in made 3’s for the 2023-2024 season, trailing only Lyon County senior and University of Kentucky signee, Travis Perry, who was recently named Kentucky Mr. Basketball 2024.


Ty received honors for the 12th district all-tournament team and 12th district all-season team. Ty was awarded 3rd region Player of the Year by two media outlets for the 2022-23 season, and is the current 3rd region Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season. He was also named the 2024 3rd region tournament MVP. Ty has multiple D1 offers.
