Beech Tree News presents: "Bears Spotlight" Briar Griffin

Briar is a 6’0” starting guard for the 12th district championship and 3rd region championship basketball team. He helped lead his team to an undefeated season against 3rd region opponents this year. He is a junior at BCHS and the son of R.B. Griffin and Ashley Flint. Briar resides in southern Butler County.

 


Briar’s family moved to Kentucky from Fort Myers, Florida in 2006 before welcoming Briar in 2007. His dad, R.B., played football and baseball growing up for Fort Myers High School, and ran track for two years. R.B. broke the 330 hurdles record and holds the record for one mile relay. In addition, R.B. played one year of semi-pro baseball.


Briar’s mom, Ashley, played varsity softball for four years and volleyball for Riverdale High School in Fort Myers, Florida. Ashley was the pitcher for the Lady Raiders while showing and riding horses all across the United States.


Briar began playing basketball in the Butler County Junior Pro league. He played soccer and football for many years but chose to focus on basketball in 8th grade. In middle school, he was a part of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade GRVC championship team and was a part of an undefeated season his 8th grade season. In the offseason, he plays AAU basketball and spend lots of time in the gym improving his game.


His brother, Ty, played for the BCHS basketball team and his younger brother, Miles, currently plays for the Butler County Junior Pro league. He wears #15 to be like his big brother. 


Briar also works hard in the classroom maintaining a 4.0 GPA. He works as a lifeguard at the Morgantown City Pool in the summers.


Briar was awarded 12th district all-district team, 12th district all-region team and 3rd region defensive player of the year.
