Bears sweep Raiders in 12th District series

MORGANTOWN — Butler County swept Whitesville Trinity in a 12th District baseball series played Monday, April 22-Tuesday, April 23, winning 6-5 and 12-0 in five innings. 

The Bears exited the series 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the 12th District.

Butler County 6, Whitesville Trinity 5: Butler County outlasted host Whitesville Trinity 6-5 in a 12th District game on Monday, April 22.

Malacki Murphy started on the mound for Butler County and earned the win. Murphy pitched six innings, recording five strikeouts.

Replacing Murphy on the mound, Duncan Tyree pitched one inning in relief for the Bears. Murphy struck out one Whitesville Trinity batter.

Butler County scored six runs on six hits. Thomas Embry (two hits, one RBI), Justin Castlen (one hit, two RBIs), Sam Hyatt (one hit, one RBI), Brycen Mode (one hit) and Jay Peralta (one hit) each produced offensively for the Bears. Providing an extra-base hit for Butler County, Mode tripled. 

Butler County 12, Whitesville Trinity 0 (5 innings): Behind a two-hitter from pitcher Garrett Phelps, Butler County blanked visiting Whitesville Trinity 12-0 in five innings in a 12th District game on Tuesday, April 23. 

Phelps recorded four strikeouts and earned the win on the mound.

Butler County scored 12 runs on six hits. Phelps (two hits, two RBIs), Justin Castlen (one hit, two RBIs), Brycen Mode (one hit, two RBIs), Malacki Murphy (one hit, one RBI), Thomas Embry (one hit) and Colt Akers (one hit) each contributed offensively for the Bears. 

Butler County is scheduled to visit Metcalfe County for its next game on Friday, April 26. First pitch for the Butler County-Metcalfe County game is slated for 6 p.m. 

 

Bears drop 12th District series to Wildcats 

MORGANTOWN — Butler County dropped its annual 12th District baseball series with Edmonson County. 

Pulling off a sweep, Edmonson County blanked Butler County 7-0 in Morgantown on Tuesday, April 16. 

Garrett Phelps started on the mound for Butler County and absorbed the loss. Phelps managed to record four strikeouts over four and one-third innings. 

Replacing Phelps on the mound for Butler County, Justin Castlen pitched two and two-thirds innings in relief. Castlen struck out one Edmonson County batter. 

Offensively for Butler Cunty, Brycen Mode collected two hits. 

Edmonson County doubled up Butler County 4-2 in Brownsville on Monday, April 15. 

Malacki Murphy started on the mound for Butler County in the district matchup at the start of the week and suffered the loss. Murphy managed to post four strikeouts over four innings.

Duncan Tyree pitched two innings in relief for Butler County and struck out one Edmonson County batter. 

In the initial district matchup, Butler County plated two runs on five hits. Castlen (one hit), Mode (two hits, two RBIs) and Thomas Embry (two hits) accounted for Butler County's offense in the district game at the start of the week.
