Bears beat Bulldogs 5-1

MORGANTOWN — Butler County pulled away to beat visiting John Hardin 5-1 on Monday, March 18. 

The Bears scored first and never trailed. 

With the game tied 1-1, Buter County pushed across three runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning.

Garrett Phelps earned the win on the mound for the Bears. Phelps pitched six innings and recorded eight strikeouts.

Contributing on the mound for Butler County, Brayden Clark pitched one inning and struck out three.

John Hardin pitcher Dezmund McAllister pitched five innings and suffered the loss. 

Replacing McAllister on the mound for John Hardin, Bryce Bradshaw pitched one inning. 

Butler County outhit John Hardin 7-2. Excelling offensively and defensively, Butler County committed only one error. 

Brycen Mode (two hits, two RBIs), Malacki Murphy (two hits, one RBI), Jay Peralta (one hit), Duncan Tyree (one hit), Colt Akers (one hit) and Sam Hyatt (one RBI) each produced at the plate for the Bears. 

Following the win, Butler County moved to 2-0.

Bears suffer shutout loss to Warren East 

MORGANTOWN — Butler County was held scoreless as Warren East pulled away to win 9-0 on Tuesday, March 19.

Warren East dealt Butler County its first loss in the 2024 high school baseball season. With the loss, Butler County slipped to 2-1.

Malacki Murphy started on the mound for Butler County and took the loss. In addition to Murphy, Butler County sent Sam Hyatt and Duncan Tyree to the mound during the matchup.

Limited offensively, Butler County was held to three hits. Murphy, Garrett Phelps and Colt Akers each collected one hit for Butler County in the shutout loss. 

The Bears are scheduled to visit Warren East for a late-season game on Friday, May 10. 

Butler County is slated to host Warren Central for its next game on Monday, March 25. The first pitch for the Butler County-Warren Central game is set for 5:30 p.m.
