Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

I have yet another round of “Oh You Didn’t Know” with a few things that are interesting.  Some things you might know.  Quite a few you might not because I didn’t.  Our first entry is from the television show department.  Did you know that the theme song to the 1986-1993 CBS series Designing Women was an instrumental horns version of “Georgia On My Mind” by the late Ray Charles?

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. My extended family travels to Morgantown for food and fireworks. I love to see them relax and enjoy being together! We began gathering here on the 4th in 1986, and I believe we have only missed two years (both due to illness or injury). Not every family member can come, but most try. Our July 4th gathering has become a family tradition.

Cheryl Hughes: Misrepresentation

A little over a week ago, I attended a Celebration of Life funeral service for my brother-in-law’s father, Carlos.  Charles was an only child, and his mom (who passed 15 years ago) and his dad and he were a tight-knit family.  When Charles married my sister, Lorrie, she was welcomed into the family as one of their own.  Carlos was a diabetic.  He entered the hospital a little over four weeks ago with a sore on his foot that would not heal.  Things went from bad to worse, and Carlos passed away from a variety of complications.  During one week of

I think I’m going to have to disable the Siri app on my iPhone.  Siri has taken at least five years off my life.  Let me explain.

Jarrod Jacobs: The Word of the Lord

Let us focus our attention on the book of Micah, where it begins with the statement, “The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem” (Mic. 1:1). The phrase “the word of the Lord” is a powerful one. This statement affirms that a person is not speaking by his own authority, or merely speaking his feelings, or expressing an opinion.

Food growing and storage are becoming popular again. Knowing the growing and storage conditions of the foods we consume has become important to many. The UK Cooperative Extension Service and the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment provide many online resources to those interested in growing and storing their own foods, such as information about vegetable gardening, dehydrating fruits and vegetables, and canning foods.
